For Morocco Earthquake Survivors
Our objective for 1 year
Strengthen mental health and social wellbeing for a total of 5,000 Moroccan victims (children and adults) and for 500 health service providers.
The Healing, Resilience and Empowerment (HRE) Program for integrative peace
IAHV offers an effective, scalable and cost-effective program, applicable across cultures, free from risk of stigmatisation and without requiring the involvement of often scarce MH specialists. The program, an intense trauma-relief workshop, produces measurable results, including allowing to release deeper stresses and traumas thereby strengthening overall wellbeing and resilience.
The course duration: 12 hrs (over 4 consecutive days). No. of participants: up to 25 per group Online & Offline.
As of Sept.14, there were 2,946 deaths and 5,674 people injured. These numbers have not been updated or changed as of Sept.20, but it is felt that this is still not an accurate count, as search and recovery efforts are ongoing. So far Morocco has lost more than 3,000 people and according to government sources, at least 50,000 homes were damaged.
The devastation of Morocco’s earthquake has affected people’s livelihood in a substantial way, particularly those relying on tourism and agriculture. While many survivors in Morocco will be able to overcome the mental, emotional and physical impact of the recent events by their own faith, resilience and resources, many others may still suffer from mental/physical/emotional stress and need support to strengthen their coping mechanisms.
Médecins du Monde points out that there is also a growing need for “psychological support for front-line teams: rescuers, military personnel, psychologists and health service providers." Recovery of inner sense of belongingness, of hope, of autonomy via an effective community support program is greatly needed.
